The inaugural Soldier Marathon is a 26.2 mile Marathon foot race and a 13.1 mile Half-Marathon foot race.
November 13, 2010 @ 7AM ET
Course Description: Both the full and half-marathon courses begin at the world-class National Infantry Museum near the entrance to Ft. Benning and run a very scenic 5.7 mile loop through Ft. Benning’s history and monuments before returning to the Infantry Museum. Ft. Benning has been recognized as the Best Installation in the world. After completing the Ft. Benning loop the full marathon course continues a loop course along the RiverWalk and the Chattahoochee River to Uptown Columbus and Phenix City, Alabama before returning to the National Infantry Museum and finishing on the beautiful Avenue of Flags. After completing the Ft. Benning loop the half-marathon course also continues along the RiverWalk and turns on the RiverWalk just past the Water Works Center before reaching Uptown and returns to the National Infantry Museum to finish on the beautiful Avenue of Flags.
The Soldier Marathon and Half-Marathon course is scenic, flat and fast and the November temperatures should be cool. Other than a moderate 0.5 mile hill at mile 2 entering Ft. Benning (and for the full marathoners there are some minor inclines along the River), the course is flat as it runs through Ft. Benning and along the River and through Uptown Columbus.
