Warm Springs 29th Annual Candlelight Tour Festival
November 16-18, 2012
Warm town…warm people…™ Warm Springs – a small West Georgia town named for its warm mineral waters and known nationally as the place President Franklin D. Roosevelt loved to call home. The Little White House attracts thousands of visitors from around the world annually – but we think it was the warmth of the town’s residents that led the former president to call Warm Springs home.
And each holiday season, Georgia’s own residents flock to Warm Springs to experience Christmas as it might have been in simpler, unhurried times.
The annual Candlelight Tour, a holiday highlight that must be experienced to be appreciated, begins the weekend before Thanksgiving and begins the holiday celebration with candlelit streets and shops dressed in the Holiday spirit! The air is filled with the smells of hot ciders and fresh mountain air taking folks back to “memories of the past” as carolers and barbershop quartets sing out yuletide songs.
The Candlelight tradition began over twenty-eight years ago when one shop owner rolled a piano onto the sidewalk and invited shoppers to join in singing traditional Christmas carols. When night time fell, candles were placed on the sidewalks and the holiday celebration continued for hours! That tradition still holds true today!
The town has expanded this tradition and continues with the Candlelight celebration each weekend throughout the Christmas season as residents, shop owners and innkeepers deck the town with thousands of tiny sparking lights, green garland and red bows. Lighted trees and candles line the sidewalk and the sounds of yuletide music can be heard over the one square mile village.
Warm Springs experienced a major renovation back in the 1980s bringing with it new life to the sleepy little town. Today, the village boasts an array of specialty shops and restaurants housing treasures both unique and antique amid the bevy of collectibles, handcrafted items, woodworks, home furnishings, candles, candies, baked goods, and southern cooking.
We invite you to experience the Magic of a Warm Springs Christmas, where Charles Dickens and Southern Hospitality come together to show you it is truly “a wonderful life”. Trade the traffic and crowded shopping malls for front street parking and warm friendly faces to greet you as you experience an old-fashioned Christmas in Warm Springs.
Warm Springs Village is open daily, throughout the year from 10:00 am til 6:00 pm, except major holidays, with extended shopping hours on Friday and Saturday nights during the Christmas season. We’re located 40 miles north of Columbus via 27Alternate/Ga Hwy 85 and 60 miles south of Atlanta, I-85S, Exit 41.
