Make Your Baby’s First Christmas Memorable
The most wonderful time of year is even more wonderful when you’re a new parent. Your baby’s first Christmas is a great time to start a new tradition. Here are six ways you can revel in this once-in-a-lifetime moment with your new bundle of joy.
Hang a keepsake ornament.
Make or buy a special keepsake ornament to remember your baby’s first Christmas. A footprint or handprint ornament kit is a special way to capture your baby’s tiny fingers and toes. It can be a small animal figurine or a small silver frame. You can even save your baby’s first socks and hang them on the tree. Each year, buy a special ornament for your child that includes the date.
Choose a special stocking.
Personalize a special Christmas stocking with your baby’s name. Stuff it with a few small, sweet gifts and a plush animal or two. After Christmas you can put the stocking away in a keepsake box.
Have your baby’s picture made with Santa.
Take your baby to get a picture taken with Santa. Make sure to write the year on it, as well as how old your child was. Once your amount of photos starts to add up, put the photos in a special “Santa Album”. This way, it keeps your photos together while looking even more like a special gift.
Splurge on special Christmas PJs.
Few things rank higher on the cuteness meter than babies in soft and cozy holiday PJ’s on Christmas morning. Festive sleepwear that’s personalized with their name looks sweet, and the apparel itself may become one of those treasured keepsakes you hold onto long after your baby has grown.
Give an heirloom gift.
Give your baby an heirloom gift that she’ll treasure for years to com. It could be a tactile, colorful quilt or an extra-cuddly new plush toy. Monogramed silver lockets and pewter baby cups are classic gifts. We received my father-in-law’s silver rattle for my son’s first Christmas.
Create a Christmas scrapbook.
It’s not too late to create a memory book or “brag book” for a baby born in 2013. Upload your digital photos to an online photo site and make a photo book of your baby’s first year. Include pictures of their favorite toys, first outings, where you traveled, etc. Order extra copies to give as presents to grandparents and relatives. Repeat this every year for an annual record of your child’s growth.
