Is your chili divine? Enter a crock pot of chili to be judgedin the Chili Cook-Off Contest. Chili will be judged on taste, aroma, and table décor. There is a $10 entry fee to participate in the cook-off. The fee will be refunded if the chef arrives on time, ready to compete. The winners of the cook-off will win a small prize and get bragging rights when their team name is engraved on the Skate Shed’s coveted chili pot trophy. Chili contestants are limited to 10 individuals per team. The deadline for entry into this year’s cook-off is January 29, 2014.
The skateboard contest is broken up into two events. The first is the Highest Ollie Competition. An ollie is a jump on a skateboard. This event is like a reverse limbo contest. Contestants ollie over a bar that is raised in increments as they successfully jump over it. The other skate contest is a game of S.K.A.T.E. This is similar to H.O.R.S.E. in basketball. The first skater to successfully land a trick “sets” that trick. Every other skater must then successfully land that trick. If they fail to land the trick, they get a letter (S). Every time they fail to land a trick, they get a consecutive letter. If they get all 5 letters (S.K.A.T.E.) before anyone else, they lose. The last skater remaining without the complete word S.K.A.T.E. wins. There will be two divisions to the game of S.K.A.T.E.; an open division and an expert division. The cost to compete in the high ollie contest or the game of S.K.A.T.E. is $5 each. Winners will get an assortment of prizes from shirts to new boards. It is free to come out and watch!
