The childhood home of the writer Carson McCullers, author of The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, The Member of the Wedding, Reflections in a Golden Eye, The Ballard of the Sad Cafe, and other works. Columbus State University operates a museum in the home that is dedicated to preserving the legacy of this great writer. The museum is open by appointment and on special occasions. Admission is free.

A 15-mile trail along the banks of the Chattahoochee River that provides an excellent facility to bilk, in-line skate, jog or just take a leisurely stroll and enjoy the scenery. The RiverWalk is one of the most attractive and inspiring urban experiences in Georgia. There are three historical walking or driving tours around downtown Columbus: Uptown (business district), the Historic District and High Uptown (residential districts). Experience American art and the history of the region at the Columbus Museuam, the largest art and history museum in Georgia and one of the largest museums in the Southeast. The museum features changing art and history exhibitions, almost 300 years of American fine and decorative art, the history of the Chattahoochee Valley, and Transformations (a hands-on gallery for kids).
Goat Rock Lake
Located just north of Columbus with one shore in Georgia and the other in Alabama, Goat Rock Lake is one of 15 Georgia Power-owned lakes in the state. The 940-acre lake has 25 miles of shoreline. IN the Chattachoochee Riverwatershead, it is formed by the Chattahoochee and Goat Rock Dam. Goat Rock is part of a 4-lake chain of Georgia Power lakes on this part of the Chattahoochee, including from north to south, Lake Harding, Goat Rock, Lake Oliver and North Highlands. Boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, camping, picnicking, lodging and other lake-related activities are available.

Heritage Park
Come and experience Heritage Park: with beautiful granite pools recreating the falls of the Chattahoochee River, exciting water elements, and handsome outdoor sculptures with historic interpretations visitors will surely enjoy. Heritage Park is a joint project of Historic Columbus Foundation, Inc., Uptown Columbus, Inc., and the City of Columbus. Harding is part of a 4-lake chain of Georgia Power lakes on this part of the Chattahoochee including, from north to south, Lake Harding, Goat Rock Lake, Lake Oliver and North Highlands.
