Specialists, staff, environment devoted entirely to our children
On November 15, 2013, The Medical Center in Columbus, Georgia will open the doors to a full service Emergency Department (ED) devoted entirely to children.
The new 5,080-square foot ED will consist of seven treatment rooms and one medical screening exam room. It will be staffed by a board-certified pediatric ER physician, something only one in five emergency rooms in the US have available.
Located adjacent to the existing Emergency and Trauma Center, the new facility will have a separate entry and separate waiting room. It will be connected via a back corridor to the main Emergency and Trauma Center for immediate access to the ambulance entrance, trauma services and imaging — with a pediatric-trained radiologist on staff to perform X-rays and MRIs.
The Children’s Hospital at The Medical Center is also in the process of recruiting many pediatric specialists in such areas as pediatric surgery, pediatric neurology, pediatric orthopedics and pediatric critical care.
These positions are in addition to the pediatric sub-specialists already part of the Medical Center’s family, which includes an intermediate care specialist, a hematologist/oncologist, endocrinologist, gastroenterologist, cardiologists and several neonatologists.
