BFit Tabata Bootcamp
Progress Check # 1
By Sara Davenport
There was silence in the room as the tape measure came out and we all prepared for the – dom dom da dom – weigh in. I was very nervous after coming off a five day beach vacation with my family and even though I still did the Tabata workout videos, with some “help” from my little ones, I was not strict about what I put in my mouth.
Taking a break after our cool down.
To recap, I started BFit’s Tabata Bootcamp on Monday, August 19. On the first day we all got weighed, measured and had a quick fitness assessment. Here’s where I started:
- Weight – 154.8
- Waist – 33″
- Hips – 43.5″
- Thigh – 26″
- Push ups – 28 in a minute
- V-sit – Held the whole minute
- Squat sit – Held the whole minute
As of Wednesday, September 4:
- Weight – 154 (down 0.8 lbs.)
- Waist – 32″ (down 1″)
- Hips – 43″ (down 0.5″)
- Thigh – 25.5″ (down 0.5″)
- Push ups – 37 in a minute
- V-sit – Held the whole minute
- Squat sit – Held the whole minute
Truth be told, I wish the scale reflected the inches lost and the way I feel in my clothes; my body is definitely changing. My clothes fit so much better and I actually fit into a pair of pants that I bought while shopping on my honeymoon – pre two babies. I tried to put these pants on at the beginning of the summer and it was not happening, even with a brand new pair of Spanx. I could button them but it was not a good look with some serious muffin tops. Nothing really beats the feeling of slipping into a great pair of pants or jeans, pulling them up over my thighs and buttoning them without having to suck in my stomach or wearing constricting underwear that cuts off my circulation. I didn’t even have to do the squat and bounce move. You know the one I’m talking about – the one you do in secret when your husband isn’t looking to stretch out something straight from the dryer so you can breathe. Now my goal is for these pants to not fit because they’ll be too big!
I’m also getting stronger. As Pilar Cobb says, “Strong is the new skinny!” When I started the bootcamp I’m pretty sure I didn’t have any triceps. My arms are my weakest part but I can definitely tell that they are getting stronger. I have a 19 month old and my arms used to tire easily just from carrying her from the car into preschool. Since my 3 year old is learning to peddle her bike, we took a family “walk-n-ride” around the block on Sunday. My 19 month old was not interested in walking so I carried her the entire time and I never had to hand her off to my husband.
I’m completely aware that holding my kid while walking around the block is not some major milestone, but I also realize how much stronger I have become and what was once hard isn’t that hard anymore. That’s what I love about Tabata. Each 30-minute workout has exercises that build on the week before – exercises get harder, deeper, higher by adding more intensity, jumps, cardio and resistance.
My next progress check is on Monday, September 16. Check back in to see how I’m doing. Slow and steady wins the race, right?
PS. I took my 3 year old to a birthday party on Saturday and when I was offered a piece of birthday cake I declined. And, as I type, there are two chocolate cupcakes that my sister-in-law brought over for my girls and I have not touched one of them! That doesn’t really have anything to do with Tabata Bootcamp but I felt like it was worth mentioning.
