Jake Shuttlesworth (Denzel Washington), a man doing time for killing his wife, is temporarily paroled with the promise of a commuted sentence if he can accomplish one task: he must persuade his estranged son—the number one high school basketball player in America—to sign with the Governor’s alma mater. But his son would like to begin a financially lucrative career with the pros instead.
