Buds to Blossoms: A Mother/Daughter Event Celebrating Transitions

Celebrate Mother’s Day Weekend by spending a special afternoon with your pre-teen daughter at the first-ever Buds to Blossoms event. This Spirit of Women program of Columbus Regional Women and Children’s Center is designed for moms with daughters ages 9-12.
Learn together about the biological and physical changes of puberty with a presentation by Columbus pediatrician Kathryn Cheek, M.D., including separate question and answer sessions for moms and daughters.
Moms and Daughters can find out from different perspectives about the emotional and psychological aspects of puberty. Katie Krieg, LCSW, of the Pastoral Institute will talk with the girls on the topic “OMG, What is Happening to Me.” Carmen Overton of the Pastoral Institute will give Moms tips on how to cope with the emotional ups and downs of puberty and how to build bridges of communication.
Other guided topics will include:
~ Good Nutrition for Teens with Hughston Hospital dietitian Belinda Barron R.D.
~ Breast Self Exam with Sandra Kelley, RN, FNP
~ Healthy Skin Basics with skin care expert
Moms and Daughters will join together to create a Mother’s Day gardening craft spearheaded by Columbus Botanical Garden Master Gardeners Gayle Dean and Fran Fluker.
Light, healthy refreshments will be served.
Registration is $20 for a mother/daughter pair; $5 for additional daughters
