Local Domestic Violence Support Services
I don’t like talking about domestic violence.
I don’t know many people who like talking about it.
Instead, we’d rather maintain the illusion that everything is going perfectly in our relationships… that everything is fine at home.
The truth is that over one in three (37%) women and one in three (31%) men in the United States have experienced physical violence, sexual violence, or stalking by an intimate partner during their lifetime.
That’s one-third of our population!
Since 1981, October has been commemorated as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Domestic violence is a pattern of behaviors where one partner attempts to control the other through physical violence, verbal and emotional abuse or the threat of violence.
Domestic violence is about control; which means victims and perpetrators come from all walks of life. Children who live with domestic violence are also at increased risk to become direct victims of child abuse.
Here in the Chattahoochee Valley and beyond, we have several organizations that are fully invested in efforts to end the cycle of domestic violence. Victims seeking services have places where they can go to know they are believed, respected, and safe to discuss the most private and personal aspects of their lives. Help is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. All services are FREE to you and your family!
If you are in danger,
Call 911.
