Guest post by Susan Prater, Calvary Christian School
A few weeks ago, our 1st grade class discussed the Biblical story of Ruth. We talked about how Ruth made a sacrifice to stay with Naomi and left her home and everything she knew to take care of her. We talked about what a true sacrifice was.
The story really hit home for one of my students, a little girl named Gray. She went home and started talking to her family about what she could sacrifice to help others. Her mother sent me the following email:
“It was the story of Ruth that got her thinking, but it was your explanation of what sacrifice really means that hit home for her, and me!
In her words, “Mrs. Prater said that it is easy to give away old tattered jeans but if you give something away that is important to you, then it’s a sacrifice.”
Today, she had her long, beautiful hair cut and donated it to Locks of Love.”
Moments like this when my students take what they have learned and apply it to their life confirm that I have the best job in the world! I have the privilege of filling these beautiful little minds and hearts with the love of Christ. And watching the seeds grow so quickly is just a miracle to behold.
