To celebrate National Get Outdoors Day on June 8 and Get Outdoors Georgia Month in June, the loveable Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites Gopher mascot is getting out, getting dirty, and getting fit at sites across Georgia all month long. Park goers can join in the fun by spotting the Gopher mascot image on trails, campgrounds and playgrounds, then snapping a photo of him. Photo quest participants will have a chance to win prizes and even choose the Gopher’s name as part of the “Great Gopher Chase” photo quest.
Georgia State Parks Announces “Great Gopher Chase” Photo Quest & Naming Contest
To participate, families simply visit one of the Georgia State Parks or Historic Sites listed on the official Gopher’s Travel Guide, snap a picture with the Gopher, then email photos to [email protected] during June. Twenty-seven sites are participating in the quest, which is detailed on GeorgiaStateParks.org/gopher-chase.
The more Gopher photos captured, the better chance of winning prizes. If photos are sent from three different Georgia state parks, they will be submitted to the Great Gopher Chase Picture of the Week contest. Winning photos will be displayed online and on the Georgia State Parks Facebook page. If five photos of the Gopher in different state parks are submitted, park guests have an opportunity to win a $50 Bass Pro Shops gift card. By submitting ten photos with the Gopher at different parks, guests can win a $50 Bass Pro Shops gift card, as well as an Annual Friends of Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites Membership worth $50.
Everyone who submits a photo of the Gopher can also submit a suggestion for his name, and the winner will receive a $100 Bass Pro Shops gift card. Winners for the five- and ten-picture categories will be announced the week of July 1. This will be followed by the announcement of the Gopher’s new name on Facebook.
