Grand Opening for New Pediatric Emergency Department
at The Medical Center set for Tuesday, June 11, 2013
The Medical Center will host a grand opening and dedication ceremony of the new Pediatric Emergency Department on Tuesday, June 11. This ceremony, which is open to the public, will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by tours of the new facility.
On the following morning, Wednesday, June 12, at 7 a.m., the Pediatric Emergency Department at The Medical Center will begin serving patients up to age 19 in the new space.
It will be the only emergency facility in the region dedicated to serving children.
The Pediatric Emergency Department at The Medical Center offers:
- Expert physician team led by a medical director board certified in pediatric emergency medicine
- Specialized pediatric nurses
- Dedicated pediatric nurse navigator to assist you and your child through the medical care process
- Convenient access to the region’s only pediatric hospital services, including Pediatric Intensive Care
- Adjacent to the Emergency and Trauma Center at The Medical Center
- Convenient parking and shuttle service
The Pediatric Emergency Department will offer specialized staffing. Every staff member in the department, no matter what their position, is trained in pediatrics. It will have an expert physician team led by a medical director board certified in pediatric emergency medicine. The Medical Center also has a pediatric radiologist on staff to perform X rays and MRIs on pediatric patients.
The Children’s Hospital at The Medical Center is also recruiting specialists in such areas as pediatric surgery, pediatric neurology, pediatric ophthalmologist, pediatric orthopedics and pediatric critical care. These positions are in addition to the pediatric subspecialties already part of The Medical Center, which include an intermediate care specialist, a hematologist/oncologist, an endocrinologist, gastroenterologist, cardiologists and several neonatologists.
The Pediatric Emergency Department received a $1.5 million gift of support from Courtney and Paul Amos II, the largest single gift ever received by the Columbus Regional Medical Foundation. Their gift was made in honor of pediatrician Kathryn Cheek, M.D., for her many contributions to the wellbeing of children in our community and state.
The Medical Center serves four Georgia counties in its primary and secondary service areas of Muscogee, Harris, Talbot and Marion counties and an additional nine counties in southwest Georgia and parts of east Alabama.
