The historic Liberty Bell Pool at FDR State Park in Pine Mountain reopens today (May 26, 2012) to the public.
The bell shaped pool is renown for it’s flagstone bottom and chilly waters. It is made of local stones and built by men in the Civilian Conservation Corps, part of President Roosevelt’s New Deal.
The pool sat empty last summer because of money constraints, but is now under the operation of the Harris County Recreation Department. Updates included a new pump and a handicap accessible ramp. Plans are in place to purchase an ADA lift.
2012 hours of observation are Wednesday through Saturday, 11am-6pm and Sunday, 1-6pm. The pool will be open on Memorial Day. Admission is $5.
