Need help keeping the kids busy during the winter months? Try this fun project! Spend the day making Homemade Glitter Gem Soap! This is a super activity for parties.
If you’ve never made soap before, start with a premade soap base like glycerin. Then all you need to do is melt it down in the microwave, then stir in your favorite fragrances, colorant, minerals, or herbs. Pour it into molds and let it cool for a few hours. Once your homemade soap has hardened fully, it’s ready to be used.
Supplies you will need:
- Clear glycerin block soap
- Silver cosmetic grade glitter
- Soap colorant
- Soap scent (your choice)
- Silicone soap mold
- Craft sticks for stirring
- Glass measuring cup
- Stainless steel mixing bowls
Directions:
With a sharp knife, cut your soap block into about large ice cube size pieces.
Place your soap cubes into a glass measuring cup and microwave for about 45-60 seconds (should be completely melted but very hot)
Let your kids mix in one drop of blue colorant, a 1/4 teaspoon of cosmetic grade glitter, and a few drops of your favorite soap scent. Add extra drops of colorant to deepen the shade and mix.
Carefully fill the silicone soap mold with your melted soap and place the mold on a flat surface in the freezer for 20 minutes to harden.
Stretch the sides of your mold and push up on the bottom to remove your soaps.
Enjoy!
