RiverCenter presents Junie B. Jones
November 14 at 7:00pm
For anyone with children these days, the name Junie B. Jones should be pretty familiar. The series of books about a precocious first grader has captivated an entire generation of kids. And Theatreworks USA, America’s largest and most prolific professional not-for-profit theatre for young and family audiences, brings Junie B. Jones to RiverCenter on November 14 at 7:00pm.
The musical is based on four volumes in Barbara Park’s Junie B. Jones series of books:
- Junie B., First Grader (at Last!);
- JunieB.,BossofLunch;
- Junie B., One-Man Band; and
- Top-Secret Personal Beeswax: A Journal by Junie B. (and Me!).
The show’s mood is definitely upbeat, and the lessons Junie B. learns are ones Mister Rogers would endorse.
It’s Junie B.’s first day of first grade and a lot of things have changed for her: Junie’s friend Lucille doesn’t want to be her best pal anymore, and on the bus, Junie B. makes friends with Herb, the new kid at school. Also, Junie has trouble reading the blackboard and her teacher Mr. Scary thinks she may need glasses. Throw in a friendly cafeteria lady, an annual kickball tournament and a “Top-Secret Personal Beeswax Journal”, and first grade has never been more exciting.
Junie B. Jones will capture the audience’s hearts just as the books captivated an entire generation of students.
The gifted and very versatile cast of six infectiously captures the wacky charming wisdom that is kids. And like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, Junie B. Jones deliciously combines polished professional performances all while recreating the sweet innocence that is childhood. The result is spellbinding for both young audience members and all the young at heart.
Join us in the Grand Lobby beginning at 6pm as the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and the Columbus Museum host an array of age-appropriate pre-show activities.
