There are numerous local parks with playgrounds in our community. Here is a list of our favorites in Columbus, Phenix City, Opelika and Auburn.
Columbus
Bridging The Gap Playground
Located behind the Columbus Public Library, this new community playground is uniquely designed to serve children of all abilities. This is a first class playground. The ground cover is actually recycled rubber mulch — the safest play surface on the market. All sets are fully accessible and meet ADA standards, and the entire area is gated to keep children safe.
Cooper Creek Park
4816 Milgen Road | 31907
Cooper Creek Park provides guests with access to a walking and fitness trail, playgrounds, picnic areas and more. Two play sets to choose from. A walking trail follows the perimeter of the lake. Don’t forget to bring a loaf of bread to feed the ducks!
Fall Line Trace Park
3690 Manchester Expressway | 31909
One of our fans recommended this new playground located next to the Rails To Trails parking area. It has nice restrooms nearby, great play equipment, plenty of seating, and lots of parking.
Flat Rock Park
6106 Warm Springs Road | 31909
Flat Rock Park is a hidden gem. Flat Rock Park is known for its beautiful rocky stream, especially near the entrance. The rocks are wide and flat (hence the name), and the water flow is shallow enough for wading. Access to a walking trail, playgrounds, small lake, picnic areas, grills, and covered eating areas. A truly beautiful park.
Lakebottom & Weracoba Park
This has been a favorite Columbus park since 1888. Once there was a lake with islands and arched bridges connecting them. Boating was a popular past time at the park. In 1925 the lake was drained and Columbus High was built near the site of the ball fields. The park has three nice play sets. One set is specially designed for smaller children.
Phenix City
Idle Hour Park
1212 Airport Road | 36867
Located adjacent to Moon Lake, Idle Hour Park is the primary recreation area in Phenix City. It has walking trails, a great playground, and a splash pad.
Opelika
Municipal Park
Denson Drive, Opelika
Located across the street from the Opelika Recreation Center on Denson Drive, Opelika’s Municipal Park is a great picnic destination. Rocky Brook Creek meanders through the middle of it. A unique attraction in the park is the Rocky Brook Rocket, a vintage train. The train runs seasonally and is also available for rental. Playgrounds are located throughout the site. Restrooms available. Municipal Park has recently been upgraded to meet ADA standards.
Auburn
Hickory Dickory Park
1399 Hickory Ln, Auburn
Hickory Dickory Park is a unique playground experience for children. The towers, murals and secret hideaways this park makes you feel like you walked into a storybook. There are plenty of picnic tables. There is also a large grassy area with room to play frisbee, football, or some other yard sport.
