Record-Breaking Funraising Total for 2013 Scott’s Ride for Miracles
The 2013 Scott’s Ride for Miracles benefiting Children’s Miracle Network at The Medical Center raised $220,862.80.
This total is the most ever raised in one year by Scott’s Ride for Miracles, eclipsing the 2012 year by $70,000. To date, Scott’s Ride for Miracles has raised more than $650,000 to support The Children’s Hospital at The Medical Center. The ultimate goal is to raise $1 million over the course of the Ride.
I am constantly amazed at the generosity of this community and the supportive hearts of complete strangers around this beautiful country. We are more than halfway to our overall goal of $1 million, and we are so proud that every dollar we raise stays right here in Columbus at The Medical Center. We look forward to boarding our bikes again in May 2014 to ride for those babies who are looking forward to their first car ride home from the hospital and the kids who want to hop on their trikes and bikes.” ~ Scott Russmeyer
On Friday, May 3, Scott Ressmeyer, co-owner of Country’s Barbecue, and 11 friends boarded their motorcycles at The Medical Center and embarked upon a 21-day, 48-state, 9,000-mile journey to raise awareness and money for the needs and services supported by Children’s Miracle Network at The Medical Center. This was the fifth year for the ride.
Joining Ressmeyer were Mike Langford of Cataula; Larry Suits, Rick Stinson, Brian Brock, Raymond Eckel and Butch Thomas of Columbus; Mike Jolley of Hamilton; Gary McDowell of Manchester; James Cole and Brad Hansen of Midland; and Ronnie Wilson of Salem, Alabama. In addition to taking time off work and funding all personal expenses associated with the ride including hotels, meals and gasoline, each of Scott’s Miracle Riders committed to raising at least $2,500.
All of the riders have posted final blogs on the ride’s website www.rideformiracles.com. In addition, a video encapsulating the ride has been uploaded since the riders’ return.
Ressmeyer launched the event in 2009 as a one-time, solo ride to commemorate his 50th birthday and to raise money for CMN at The Medical Center. Convinced by Harris County Sheriff Mike Jolley to repeat this endeavor, Ressmeyer expanded the Ride in 2010 and each year since to include 10 additional Miracle Riders.
Providing support for the event were Presenting Sponsor Mercedes Benz of Columbus; Event sponsors Aflac, Columbus Tape and Video, Columbus Visitors Bureau, Country’s Barbecue, Neonatology Associates, TSYS; and Bike Wrap Sponsor Wells Fargo Bank.
The 2013 Scott’s Ride for Miracles also received a special donation at the kickoff ceremony in March. The Grainger Foundation donated $50,000 to Scott’s Ride in support of The Children’s Miracle Network at The Medical Center.
The 2014 Scott’s Ride for Miracles will be May 2 – 23, 2014.
