On Saturday, December 29th, No Kill Columbus will hold their 2nd Annual Candlelight Vigil, to honor over 4,000 pets whose lives were ended at the city’s municipal facility in 2012. The solemn event will take place at Columbus Animal Care and Control, at 4910 Milgen Rd, from 5:30-7:30 pm. The peaceful gathering will include hot chocolate, live music, and a moment of silence. Guest speakers will include Shane Smith, who has played a vital role in pardoning dogs from death in Macon and Terrell counties, where they were able to adopt out every single dog available for adoption and remain No Kill for several months. Candles will be provided at the event, and all are invited to join.
No Kill Columbus is a non-profit organization that has been urging city officials to implement a No Kill sheltering model based on innovative, non-lethal programs and services, which have already saved the lives of tens of thousands of animals in communities across the nation. But instead of embracing No Kill, many shelters—including Columbus Animal Care and Control—cling to their failed models of the past, models that result in the killing of millions of healthy, adoptable dogs and cats in U.S. shelters every year.
