Tips for planning your first vacation to Disney World
Have you been thinking about taking a vacation to Walt Disney World? Is it finally time for your children to experience a little “Disney magic”? Walt Disney World has so much to offer that planning your first trip can be very overwhelming. There is so much information out there that it is hard to know where to start. Here are some tips on what you can expect on your first Walt Disney World vacation.
This is not your typical vacation.
Walt Disney World is a fast paced world of Parks and Resorts and many people will tell you that it is not what you would call “relaxing”. There are ways to relax outside of the Theme Parks and here are some tips to help you enjoy your vacation. Stay at a Disney hotel so you can take midday pool breaks. The parks get more crowded in the afternoons so that is a great time to take a break or a nap. Also, scheduling a sit down meal in the middle of the day will help to get you off your feet for awhile and relax in a cool place.
So many food options.
Walt Disney World has some fantastic restaurants. Many restaurants, especially the character restaurants, are very popular. For that reason, Disney allows guest to book their dining reservations 180 days in advance. You may also book vacation packages that include dining plans. This is a great option for families because it is convenient and it saves you money. There are also many quick service restaurants located throughout the property if you are a family that prefers not to schedule your vacations.
What about Florida weather?
Florida weather can be very unpredictable. During the summer months you can expect afternoon showers almost daily. The best thing to do is be prepared. Take ponchos with you while touring the parks. Make sure to drink plenty of water and wear sunscreen. It is easy to get caught up in the fun and forget but no one wants a sunburn to ruin their vacation.
Expect Magic!
One thing that I didn’t expect was the feeling you get the first time you visit Walt Disney World. You soon realize that it is so much more than a Theme Park. Disney goes above and beyond to create an amazing experience for their guest. They think of everything! They want their Parks to be an escape to a world where you have no worries and no responsibilities. A place where you can have fun right along with your kids. So pick up a pair of Mickey ears and wear them with pride. Everyone is a child again at Walt Disney World.
Don’t plan every minute.
When you start planning it is easy to get caught up in planning every minute of every day. You will not be able to do everything your first trip. Decide which Parks you want to visit and go from there. Each Park is unique and may not interest you. Don’t feel like you have to visit it because you want to do it all. Enjoy each day without the pressure of a ‘perfect” trip. You will find that kids will change your plans and sometimes so will a little “Disney magic”. Be open to flexibility.
When it comes to planning your first Disney vacation, you can never be too prepared. Do your research and if possible, speak with an expert about the options available.
Have a magical time!
