Rally to benefit House of Heroes in conjunction with McDonald’s Grand Opening
Saturday, September 14 at 10am
Back in 1982, when Jack Pezold opened his fist new McDonald’s store on Victory Drive, he teamed up with South Columbus Concerned Citizens members and held a “Take Pride in the Southside” parade down Victory Drive from the Traffic Circle to the new store, Jack donated $0.50 per participant to start a “Good Neighbor” fund for the Southside of town. They raised over $1000 that day, and had over 45 merchants participate, changing their marquees or trailer signs, showing their pride in the Southside.
After 31 years, the old McDonald’s is being replaced with a brand new, modern store, but the Pezold team wants to remind citizens that “there are still a lot folks taking pride in the Southside.”
On Saturday, September 14 at 10am, there will be a “Take Pride in the Southside II” rally in the Winn-Dixie parking lot across South Lumpkin Road from McDonald’s co-sponsored again by Pezold Management, South Columbus Concerned Citizens and Winn-Dixie.
This time, for every participant who registers and redeems the FREE drink coupon inside the Victory Drive McDonald’s that day; Pezold will donate $1 to House of Heroes, Inc™ (HOH) is a 501(c)(3) grass-roots, non-profit established in 2000 to help and honor military and public safety veterans and/or their spouses who have served our country faithfully and sacrificially. Minor repairs are made to the homes at no cost to the homeowner in an effort to say “thank you”. Recipients are then recognized and presented a flag that has been flown over the Capital of the United States in their honor.
Each participant will receive a coupon for a free McDonald’s sweet tea or soft drink as well as the chance to win several door prizes from McDonald’s – including FREE McDonald’s for a year, and lots of other prizes from local merchants.
During the rally there will be a bounce house set up, a fire truck, Home Depot is going to come out and build birdhouses and tool boxes with the kids, Winn-Dixie is going to do a cake-walk inside the store, and much more! After the rally, there will be a Ronald McDonald show at McDonald’s along with fun activities for the kids including face painting and the opportunity to have their picture taken with Ronald.
We look forward to seeing everyone come out to the “Take Pride in the Southside II” rally to benefit House of Heroes on Saturday, September 14 at 10am.
