Social Skills Groups for Children & Adolescents
Based on age and needs, multiple levels are offered that build upon previously learned skills. Includes weekly parent information sheets with suggestions for reinforcing learned skills at home and in the community.
These courses consist of teaching social skills in a therapeutic environment with instructional DVDs, modeling, role-playing, and take-home workbooks.
Topics to be covered include:
• Basic social skills such as asking for help, asking questions, joining in, turn taking, and initiating play.
• Friendship such as play dates, taking turns, sharing, and saying sorry.
• Conversation skills, friendship skills, apologizing, accepting consequences, and handling disappointment.
• Tips and tricks for hygiene, tact, and sense of humor.
• School issues (listening, keeping hands to self, library/playground behavior, self calming)
• Higher level social skills such as, expressing feelings and recognizing others feelings, dealing with teasing, negotiating, problem solving and emotion regulation techniques.

How to Sign Up:
• For new clients: Clients, who are new to Pastoral Institute, should schedule a screening appointment before having their child join the group. Please call our office at 706-649-6500, ext. 1361 for your screening appointment with Dr. Sims.
• For current Pastoral Institute clients: If your child is currently or was recently a client, please register for the group by calling our office at 706-649-6507, ext. 1361 for Isabella Bond or email at [email protected].
Cost: All or part of the charges for group therapy may be covered by insurance or by a parent’s EAP or CAP benefit. Please contact our business office at 706-649-6500, ext. 1218 for Nancy to find out about insurance coverage for the group.
For all clients, there is a one time materials fee of $80.00 (which is not covered by insurance or EAP/CAP) to cover workbooks, snacks, and rewards for the children; this will also include a one missed group fee of $30.00 which will be refunded if no sessions are missed (whether cancelled or no showed by client). Any additional group sessions missed are charged $30.00 per missed session.
Early Bird Registration: Materials fee will be dropped to $70 if paid before August 16th.
Registration Deadline is August 23rd.
