Parents as Teachers® promotes the optimal early development, learning, and health of young children by supporting and engaging their parents and caregivers. The program matches parents and caregivers with trained professionals who make regular personal home visits during a child’s earliest years in life, from prenatal through kindergarten.
The vision of the program is to help children develop, learn and grow to realize their full potential.
Research showed that greater parent involvement is a critical link in the child’s development of learning skills, including reading and writing. Research published in 2018 also found that the evidence-based home visiting model demonstrates a significant decrease in cases of child maltreatment when home visiting services are delivered through a scaled-up, statewide home visiting program.
The internationally recognized evidence-based home visiting model currently serves 193,200 families in 50 U.S. states, 115 Tribal organizations, six other countries, and one U.S. territory.
