June 4, 4:53 PM ~ Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue signed today the long awaited ban on texting and teen cell phone use while driving.
House Bill 23 prohibits teenagers 18-year-old and younger from using a wireless telecommunication device while operating a vehicle. The violation will be worth 1 point against the driver license and it includes texing, browsing the web, or talking on the phone.
Senate Bill 360, also know as “Caleb’s Law” prohibits “writing, sending, or reading a text based communication (…) while operating a motor vehicle.” There is no age limit in this law and it also counts 1 point on the driving record.
Both laws go into effect July 1st, 2010.
