The Big Read is back!
Adults and children will enjoy this month-long celebration of Zora Neale Hurston’s classic novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God. The month is packed with both adult-only and child-friendly programs.

Kick-off Celebration with Valerie Boyd

Well begin our celebration with noted Zora Neale Hurston biographer, Valerie Boyd, whose book Wrapped in Rainbows is the first definitive biography of the enigmatic author. Following Ms. Boyd’s presentation, we will have refreshments, music, and the opportunity to purchase books and mingle with the biographer.

The Family Theatre presents this dramatization of William Miller’s book. In it we meet the young Zora Neale Hurston. As a part of the Big Read activities, the Columbus Public Library will present three films about Zora Neale Hurston a feature film version of Their Eyes Were Watching God, a documentary about the author, and a filmed play of her writings and music. All three movies will be shown in the Columbus Public Library Auditorium beginning at 7:00 pm.
