Make a difference in a child’s life here in Muscogee County by giving them the opportunity to read!
Do you know that approximately 61 percent of low-income families do not have a single piece of reading material suitable for a child? In Georgia, a third of our children come to school unprepared to learn and 75 % of students who are poor readers in the third grade will remain poor readers in high school. Further, one in four adults in Georgia operates at a low literacy level, and low literate workers cost Georgia businesses $7 billion a year.
The Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy cannot address all the issues of early literacy; however, we can eliminate one of the reasons why parents do not read to their child – the availability of quality books in the home. The Ferst Foundation provides books delivered not just once, but 60 times (monthly from birth to age 5) in the child’s critical years of development.
The mission of the Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy is to “Provide books for local communities to prepare all Georgia preschool children for reading and learning success.” A local Community Action Team (CAT) has been formed in Muscogee County to raise funds and register local children to receive a new book delivered to their home address each month until age 5. Learn more about our local CAT and how you can make a difference in a child’s life by giving them a gift of up to 60 books!
Do you have a child between the ages of 0-5 that you would like to register to receive free books?
