Did you know that an out-of-service cell phone can still dial 911? That’s right. As long as the phone has a battery and a bit of charge, it is capable of dialing 911.
So imagine the trouble that can happen when toddlers are given old cell phones to play with.
According to The Daily News, accidental 911 calls made by kids happen more often than you’d think. Dispatchers are obligated to investigate every single 911 call, which can delay response to real emergencies.
Officers recommend taking the battery out of your old cell phone – or simply don’t give it to your kids at all. Otherwise, you’ll be having an awkward chat when they track down your pint-sized offender.
