Gift Ideas for Mom – Beyond flowers, chocolate, or a candlelit dinner
Valentine’s Day is a beautiful day to show love to the special people in your life. But knowing what to get the real love of your life — your mom — can be a challenge. After all, the woman who does it all deserves the best of Valentine’s Day. But what to get her?
We polled our readers to find out what moms want for Valentine’s Day – beyond flowers, chocolate, or a candlelit dinner. Here’s what they had to say.
A clean home.
A clean home is truly the best gift you can give someone. A clean house is a kind gesture that no one is going to turn down. After all, who doesn’t want a free ticket to relax while their house gets scrubbed from top to bottom? Multiple moms like this idea.
You could never go wrong with a deep clean of the house. We have a puppy and two small kids right now. I’d love a handmade ticket from my husband good for one entire day off of kid/pet/wife duty that I could pull out and use anytime I wanted. I know. I’m dreaming. ~ Sylvia W.
More than anything in the world, I want someone to come in and deep clean my house. I want to come home to a SPOTLESS house. – Laura M.
I would love a spa date or and cleaning service to help out around the house! – Fredrika H.
A day off.
One significant—and nearly free—way to reward a mom is by giving her free time. Whether you arrange a day at the local spa or let her sleep in, let her enjoy a relaxing day with none of the typical stressors.
A nice dinner and no cleaning after….or the day off. – Carrie J.
A massage, a good nap while the house is professionally deep cleaned, and wake up refreshed to enjoy a clean house for two solid hours before my husband comes home with the kids. – Drina D.
Time together.
Spending time together is a great gift idea. There are many activities you can do together that range from free to super expensive, whether it’s watching a movie together or a romantic vacation getaway for the weekend.
My main thing is making memories that we all will never forget. A day with my family with good quality time and no distractions, watching my kids play, laughing and conversing over a picnic. – Devanie G.
Anything homemade.
Anyone can take the easy way out and buy a gift card, but often homemade gifts prove you thought long and hard about what your loved one would enjoy.
The best part about homemade gifts is what they mean to you personally. Anyone can see the present, but only you know what it means.
I like homemade items, and the thought put into gifts. If they are treating me to a meal, I don’t want to go to a restaurant. I want the hubby and the kids to each have a hand in cooking a meal-regardless of how simple it is. If they want to buy me a gift, I’d rather they try to replicate the gift or idea by making it themselves. It’s the homemade aspect and the thought that counts. – Brittany P.
An oil change.
Are you looking for a practical gift? Give your mom’s car a tune-up. Better yet, take her car in for an oil change, tire rotation, and under-the-hood inspection. Single moms, especially, will appreciate this gift. There are plenty of moms raising kids with no help. Money can get tight, so any bit of support can go along way.
My car fixed without me losing a day. – Natalie B.
